Join Dr. Vaz for this lecture about the hidden history of Africans in the Americas. Learn about how they liberated themselves from slavery and established themselves a safe haven in the peninsula of Florida from the seventeenth to the nineteenth century. The primary sources presented illustrate a successful American slave revolt, in which thousands of black Americans over the course of two centuries fought for their own freedom against the British and later the American government from right here in the sunshine state.
