The Second Annual Malcolm X Book Fest" at M.L.K Jr. Park in Winter Park, FL, is held every third Sunday in May in honor of El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, formerly known as Malcolm X. This year's book festival and birthday celebration will occur Sunday, May 15th, 2022, with special add-on events and workshops happening Saturday, May 14th, 2022. So come out and enjoy a festive atmosphere and honor the birthday of the activist, orator, and author we know as Malcolm X!
Day 1- May 14th, 2022
This year, for adults, we have a special VIP book launch with author and professor Alecia Blackwood for her newly released book, "Ubuntu Pedagogy, Becoming An Responsive Educator," taking place on Saturday, May 14th, 2022, at 5 p.m. at DARE Bookstore. Dr. Blackwood is now one of the country's leading experts on Ubuntu pedagogy. This event is a very intimate and engaging affair; commencing with a private drink reception starting at 5:00 p.m., followed by a lecture at 6:00 p.m.; RSVPs are required.
On Saturday, May 14th, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., join Jasmine Walker, author of The Baddest Kid in Sixth Grade, for a special introductory Persuasive Writing Workshop examining Malcolm X's most memorable and reflective quotes. This 60-min workshop is sponsored by Free Thought Writing and is available for children 10 to 14 years of age; RSVPs are required.
Day 2 - Malcolm X Book Fest
The Malcolm X Book Fest is a day filled with fun activities for the entire family! Visit authors, publishers, writers, and poets showcasing their latest literary works, participate in various creative workshops and join us for storytelling highlighting Afrocentric folklore. In addition, enjoy retail and food vendors and youth vendors participating in our Kids Entrepreneurship Fair! The Malcolm X Book Fest is hosted and curated by The Equity Council Corp. and co-hosted by DJ Asafo Weedamiah and Q The God.
This year's festival is sponsored by The Chosen and Dare Books, Central Florida's oldest Black book store with hundreds of titles under one roof and thousands of titles available for order online!
