Inspiring a Love for the Wonders of Nature Environmental scientist Amy Giannotti, Director of Development for Schoolyard Films, will showcase the work of her organization to promote environmental awareness through filmmaking that creates a bridge connecting humans to nature. Schoolyard Films, a non-profit organization founded in 2008, brings the planet’s most remote locations into classrooms via high-end environmental documentaries for young people.
Her captivating presentation delves into the transformative power of cinematography to spark curiosity, inspire environmental stewardship and foster a deeper connection with nature. An enthusiastic science communicator, Giannotti will share Schoolyard Films’ mission to create free environmental and wildlife films to engage youth to appreciate the wonders of nature. With firsthand stories from breathtaking locations around the globe, these films collaborate with scientists and educators to make environmental education accessible and impactful. Her talk will inspire and uplift, encouraging one to view nature through a lens of possibility and aim towards a world where every child has the opportunity to fall in love with nature.
Giannotti holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Marietta College and a Master’s degree in environmental sciences from the University of Virginia, with a specialty in marine ecology. She is dedicated to making a positive impact on the environment, combining her scientific expertise, leadership, and a profound commitment to conservation through education.
The Life Explorers Speakers Series is held in the Azalea Lodge of Mead Botanical Garden from 10-11:30 a.m. The program is free of charge with light refreshments and coffee served.
