Following their recently announced plans to open a second Harry Potter-themed attraction, Universal Orlando is keeping the momentum up with plans for a new Simpsons-themed area at Universal Studios, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
The new area, based off the popular and long-running cartoon show, will be called "Springfield" just like the fictional town, and will be built next to the preexisting Simpsons ride at Universal Studios. In addition to the simulation ride that's already there, Universal will also build a new ride for the area called Kang & Kodos' Twirl 'n' Hurl, an outdoor spin ride.
It will boast over half a dozen brought-to-life settings from the show including the local watering hole Moe's Tavern which will sell "Duff Beer" (no word on alcoholic or non-); Krusty Burger serving up "Krusty-certified meat sandwiches"; Lard Lad's Donuts; The Frying Dutchman; Luigi's Pizza; The Android's Dungeon & Baseball Card Shop; and Duff Gardens, the Sentinel reports.
The area is currently under construction. Universal has plans to open later the summer at an unspecified date. We'll keep you updated as more news arises regarding the new Simpsons Springfield attraction at Universal Studios Orlando.
