This past Memorial Day Weekend in Orlando I had the privilege to attend Megacon's after parties on Friday, May 26, 2017 and on Saturday, May 27, 2017. Neither party was the same. The second outdid the first. They were an amazing continuation of the weekend's festivities at the MegaCon Convention 2017. After getting your autographs signed, and unique one of a kind items in their halls, there was an underworld just waiting to be explored at the Rosen Plaza. An Inside Look at Megacon Convention After Parties
For most people, the convention world remains a strange and inviting mystery. I did my best to give an inside look into the world I've grown to known for almost a decade as a special guest. I've always attended as an actress and radio co-host hiding out in VIP. This year I ran wild amongst the group to give you the inside scoop into The Geeky Tiki Luau and Paradox after parties thrown for MegaCon. These two fabulous parties invite world-renowned costume makers and wearers alike. What does the word "cosplay" mean? Here's the definition: Cosplayer: someone who dresses up as a character from a work of fiction.
Some only go as far as watching the science fiction movies, recording the shows, reading the books, or playing the games. There is a whole new breed of enthusiastic individuals who bring a unique slant to these infamous caricatures, of which we all know and love. Can you tell if this is Norman Reedus?! It's not, but you have to look twice. The real Norman has in actuality has been a previous guest in earlier years. You never know who you will see.
The surreal world of science fiction and fantasy conjoin to create the ultimate fandom experience at MegaCon’s after parties. Where else can you see Poison Ivy, The Joker, and Harley Quinn hanging out at a Tiki Party in Luau skirts? As they are getting ready for a nightly swim.
Patrons of the parties walk and talk like the beloved characters they try to emulate. The Joker's menacing laugh, with promises of destruction, and his Harley Quinn right by his side. Moshi Moshi Productions creates an arena for the outcast and misunderstood to unite, and even win money for their unique design and bold personalities for the immersive MegaCon experience.
The Geeky Tiki After Party at 3Nine at The Plaza, had everything from live shows, bikini and costume contests, and out of this world performers. Many of the cosplayers in attendance had spent upwards of thousands of dollars on each of their costumes and taken months to make; both conceptually and manually. Making these cosplayers famous in their own right, for their elaborate special effects and the hyper-realism of characters either only known to the comic book, novel, or gaming worlds.
Laser lights, smoke machines, flame throwers, exotic cosplay dancers, drinks, pool parties, hot tubs with waterfalls, DJ’s and dance floors all allow for an open and inviting place to let the inner geek or geekette be themselves. To celebrate the union of other like-minded individuals. Stilt walkers and body painters turning body and art into the ultimate expression. In previous years many have taken advantage of the brilliant stages to purpose, or even find true love amongst a crowd of accepting individuals. I've been witness to proposals many times. Anywhere someone can go and be completely and uniquely themselves is a place that exudes positivity for the soul. Moshi Moshi Productions Events always carry that element. Friends experiences nights they'll never forget and make memories to last a lifetime.
Saturday night was unbelievable. A true Paradox MegaCon after party was unlike any of the conventions after parties that Moshi Moshi Productions had thrown before. While waiting in line, Darth Vader with a manned guitar serenades his way to hopefully finding a new home. A mammoth electric robotic man on stilts lights up the floor dancing and taking pictures with all who dare to disturb his trance. Live performances constantly manned the stage, while onlookers danced and reveled in the drastic scenery. Outside there was gaming stations all around the lobbies and even inside. There was truly something to experience for everyone. Even waiting in line to get in. Every corner had a new surprise. They truly outdid themselves this year. Show up at their next event or face the wrath of these villains.
