Event Details
The 13th annual Earth Fest – the county’s largest environmentally friendly festival – is on Saturday, April 29, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lake Concord Park in Casselberry. The event coincides with the widely popular Cigar Box Music Festival, the first event of its kind in Central Florida. The day begins with Earthfest with free tree and plant giveaways, butterfly releases and gardening workshops hosted by the City of Casselberry and Casselberry’s Friends of the Park. The mission of the day is to bring awareness about protecting our environment, creating clean energy and reducing our carbon footprint. As part of this important mission, numerous fun activities will expand your mind through eco-friendly sights and sounds. The areas that will educate, encourage and empower citizens to create a sustainable community include the Green Vendor Area, Entertainment Area, Food area and a Kids Zone. The event also celebrates Arbor Day, which is the last Friday in April each year. The Arbor Day Foundation has planted more than 350 million trees in neighborhoods, communities, cities and forests throughout the world. Besides more than 75 product vendors, the Casselberry Art House will host its Recycled Art Show, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Casselberry, and there will be artists throughout the park showing off their work. Then starting at noon, there will the first annual Cigar Bowl Guitar Festival, which has been popular in New Orleans and other cities but making its debut in Central Florida. The event is sponsored by the Orange Blossom Blues Society. Historically, pioneers, Civil War soldiers, rural farmhands, street singers and other resourceful musicians found ways to build expressive instruments from household items and random hardware, most notably in Appalachia and the Mississippi Delta. Many musicians today are using modern cigar box guitars to record and perform live, making the unique instruments and their authentic, traditional sound a staple of the American music scene. Admission to Earth Fest 2023 is free, and the event is open to the public.
