In Orlando, we’re accustomed to all things hot. Hot weather. Hot people. Hot parties. But since August of 2015, the guys at International Hot Glass have been raising the temperatures inside Artegon Marketplace in a unique and innovative way. Where else can you walk into a gallery space of professionally blown glass art pieces and also catch live demonstrations, or create your own piece? In a shopping mall of all places.
“Everybody is captivated by hot molten glass,” says co-owner and longtime glassblower, David Sandidge on why he chose a mall as his location and how he attracts his customers. “Usually they’re [glassblowing shops] in industrial parks.”
International Hot Glass Offers Orlando's Only Walk-in Workshop
It’s location isn’t the only aspect making International Hot Glass one-of-a-kind. Its shop is 90% stocked with original pieces created on-site by the staff. The staff ranges from experienced glass artists to the just-starting-out young buffs to interns still studying the craft at Jacksonville University. Let’s be honest, though, the shopping may be what gets people in the door, but the demos and workshops are what keep them coming back.
From date night packages where couples choose between collaborating on a glass sculpted heart paperweight or two stemless wine glasses, to corporate team building and group workshops or private parties for groups of 2 to over 100, there are any number of options to make this an unforgettable experience. The menu of pieces to choose from consists of fourteen options ranging in price from $49 to $199, and you can set an appointment or simply walk-in and say, “Hey, can I blow some glass today?”So, what are people saying about it?
“I drove two hours not knowing what experience I will have, but let me tell you, this place exceeded my expectations in every aspect. The two guys who worked with us were amazing… Blindly, I thought their prices were kind of expensive. But, after the process of making our flower I quickly realized it's not. Overall I am counting down the days until we can go back again.” - Alexandra N. via Facebook
"My husband and I celebrated our 6th anniversary with one of International Hot Glass' Date Nights making a heart paperweight. If you're looking for a good night out with a friendly crew and something creative, this is the place for you." Hanna R.
