If your sweet tooth has been aching for some of grandma’s homemade pie, then let me introduce you to a shop doing so much more. P is for Pie
is a small artisan pastry shop in Winter Park that is turning heads with their flare for everything from Mason jar cobblers to pie pops.
Tara Gould, the original founder of P is for Pie , who poured her passions into this shop, has decided to pass the business into the hands of those who are just as passionate as her. Although Gould has decided to focus on other aspects of life, she left those beloved recipes to those she thought would be the very best fit. Ed and Stacey Tomljenovich are a dynamic husband and wife team that Gould saw as the “just the right fit” to take on the adventure of this well loved shop. The pair revealed that their success relies on the dream team that is creating your holiday goodies. Nicole Morell, a local UCF graduate and two-year veteran of their kitchen, stated that she was excited about the new ideas and changes. She also disclosed that she loves this shop because the dedication to quality with “all fresh, natural ingredients, all homemade and no artificial additions” to be found near this kitchen.
As their loyal team worked in the kitchen, Ed stated that Gould “built a wonderful reputation with this shop” and they want to keep that same momentum rolling. With orders for Thanksgiving running to well over 200 pies to be made fresh the evening before and catering for weddings booked out well over 6 months in advance, they feel that it would be “crazy to change”.
Although they think it would be crazy to change the beloved recipes or concept behind this small batch pie shop, we should all still be on the look out for new items on the menu. Since this is a small batch shop focusing on using the freshest ingredients, the batches made daily are ever changing. Most recently, the pair started rolling out with new savory hand pies including your basics like chicken potpie. But let’s not ignore something a little more southern like barbeque pulled pork with a sweet potato and black bean hash. Along with the savory pies, they will soon be featuring new cutie pie flavors and seasonal treats.
During my visit, my sweet tooth gave in to their apple hand pie and I will be craving this all through the holidays! Their hand pies come in a variety of flavors but all perfectly portioned for your own personal happiness. Their apple pie knocks those old family recipes down a peg or two (Sorry Grandma!) with the lightest flaky crust, sprinkled in raw sugar and filled with a wonderful blend of tart and sweet apple cinnamon flavor.
I made sure to pick up a few sweets for the road and Stacey insisted that the one I needed to try was their oatmeal cream whoopie pie. Featuring a light cinnamon cream pressed happily between two of the softest oatmeal cookies I have ever experienced. This whoopie pie had the most delicately sweet flavor that I may never be able to look at another oatmeal cookie the same again!
By the end, I had far more than sugarplums dancing in my head, those were replaced with the promise of spring Strawberry basil hand pies, dark chocolate salted caramel cutie pies and Mason jar cobblers. My advice to everyone in need of a homemade goodie is to find your way in there on Friday or Saturday to experience their newest items and remember that small batch means first come, first serve!
